As I sit here and write this I am staring out at a beautiful midwest spring day watching my three beautiful girls raising money for a project called Pennies for Posho. They have a lemonade stand set up on our sidewalk and are giving away shells they have collected in Panama City. As a homeschool mama I am always wondering if I am doing a good enough job. Days like this makes me think we might be on the right track.
Abigail is going to her first “lock-in” at our church this weekend. I can’t hardly believe that my first born is ten! How did that happen?? One of the servant projects they will be doing is collecting Pennies for Posho. Posho is an oatmeal like food that children in Uganda eat. We learned that just $9 can feed one of these children for an entire month. This has been a great experience in servant hood for my girls and I am so proud of them.
Abby definitely has a servants heart. She has a great love for her Savior. I am constantly in awe of her giving spirit, her tender heart and the way she is always thinking of others. She loves her books too. This girl can plow thru a 300 page book in a couple of days. Every night before bed she begs to read and usually the answer is yes. Most of the time I forget to go up and tell her lights off and then by 10pm when I go to bed she is still up reading – happy as a clam and so proud of herself for getting away with it. Books are her most prized possession. She reads them over and over.
She has been struggling with the idea of moving. The midwest has been her home since she was 5 – that’s half her life! She has made an awesome, like minded friend in one of our next door neighbors who also happens to be homeschooled. I’m so happy that something good is coming out of this move for our girls. I tell myself again and again – there is a reason for everything. One of the things she loves so much about where we are now is “the friendship tree”. It’s a beautiful old tree with branches low enough to climb in. She has spent hours in this tree over the last few years. When I told her I wanted to do pictures to mark this milestone birthday she was excited. I ordered a beautiful dress – lace and ribbons and flowers oh my! The only problem is, that isn’t my girl. She is a little girly and a whole lot jeans and teeshirt. She also said she wanted pictures with her tree. So we compromised. I would do a shoot with her in her tree and in her style – Converse and all- and when we get to Florida we could do pictures with the dress on a beach.
So, here’s my girl, in her tree. Enjoy!
